Texas instrument's broad portfolio drives smarter metering solutions

TI's comprehensive utility metering portfolio includes devices targeted at electricity, water and gas metering, as well as power line communications (PLC) and radio frequency (RF) interfaces for automated meter reading (AMR) that allow customers to design "smart metering" solutions.

As part of a smart solution, previously independent systems like meters, home thermostats and large appliances will communicate wirelessly or over existing power lines to help consumers make more informed choices about electricity.

Contactless Radio Frequency Technology Transforming
Smart Meters with Secure Pre-Payment
Contactless radio frequency (RF) chip technologies – incorporated into the smart meter and a consumer payment card or token – are transforming smart meters into secure pre-payment devices. RF-enabled pre-paid smart meters give utilities access to a broader customer base while reducing the risk of non-payment and offer consumers a new, fast and convenient way to control and pay for services.
