Wireless Glue Networks (WGN) Inc of the US developed an application software that enables to turn on and off the power of home appliances by using the iPhone.
With the software, air conditioners, heaters, lighting apparatuses and other home appliances can be turned on and off. The company plans to use the software for services that control the power consumption of home utilities.
WGN is a venture firm that deals with transmitter and receiver modules and control software for ZigBee. It ships products that comply with the 1.0 version of "ZigBee Smart Energy Profile," a standard for controlling the power usage of home appliances by using, for example, smart meters.
The company expects the software to remotely control home appliances via gateway devices on the assumption that a ZigBee network is established at home.
According to WGN, ZigBee Alliance, the promotional group of ZigBee, is now formulating "Smart Energy Profile 2.0," a standard that enables more detailed control of appliances, and the company is involved in it.
WGN plans to ally with appliance manufacturers and service providers that aim to control appliances in a house or building. It already has an outpost in Japan and plans to cooperate with manufacturers and service providers in Japan.
